Hello Westland Area Jaycees,
I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying your holiday weekend. This is Memorial Day weekend, a time we remember those who have paid the ultimate price to secure and defend our country and way of life. Please remember them this Memorial Day. Remember, We are on the hook for the Parade and look forward to assisting any where we can. Please be at the Wayne Ford Civic League by 10:30 in your Chapter Gear! April Hendryx will be to put us to work!
World Expo of Beer was a huge success! We had a lot of Westy’s out there running the admissions booth. It was a lot of fun and we had the opportunity to sample a lot of different types of beer before our shift as well as a wonderful meal and VIP treatment afterwards. What’s more is, we are going to GET PAID for our hard work! For those that couldn’t make it this year, I encourage you to try to go next year. It’s a great way to see Jaycees from across the state, have a lot of fun, and earn some money for the chapter – which is always good.
I would like to give out a big THANK YOU to all who showed up last night to the bowling fundraiser. Amy and Callie put a lot of work into the planning and I think it was a great time. The added competition also brought out the Redford Jaycees who sought to earn the new Majestic Bowling Champion Trophy. With many thanks to Lane 1 that consisted of DJ Campbell, Chris Crawford, Damian Bennet, and a potential new Member Named Tyler, Westy has retained the trophy til our next meeting! Way to GO! The Brainiac challenge hosted by Redford is next Thursday and we have been invited to fight for the Brainiac Trophy against Redford, Livonia, Wyandotte, Plymouth Canton, S Lyon, and whoever else manages to show up. Cost is 20 dollars at the door and includes beverages, food, and good times. Proceeds go to Redford’s Relay for Life team. Come on, represent the Westy, get your smart on, and have some fun.
The next project on deck is the Relay for Life. Rebeka, Andy, and the rest of the committee are working hard to make this a wonderful event. I’m pretty excited to see the fruits of all their labor as we represent our chapter and city as we continue the fight against Cancer. Stay tuned for more details!
The Car Show planning is still under way. This is happening on JUL 11th during the all American cruise. Brian Markonni is the project chair and we look forward to hearing from him soon as this plan unfolds. As it stands right now, we are holding this at Westland Bowl and we have sponsors lining up. Proceeds will be split between the good work we do in the community and Nothing But Nets!
Poker Rooms! This is at Malarkeys and runs from Jul 6 – 9 at Malarkeys and runs each day from noon til 2 AM. This is a large part of our income plan for 2015 and we need to be sure we staff it accordingly. You do not need to deal, or know anything about poker. You need to be on site and cash in and out chips. The Law requires us to have three members on site at all times. Soon, Ill be sending out a sign up sheet for people to volunteer for times. This is very important that we get this staffed accordingly and your help in making this a success is greatly appreciated.
On the Horizon;
Do you like BBQ? Get ready, there is a competition coming and we are going to help make it happen.
