Westy Weekly March 20th, 2015

I know, its Friday. Last night, I had a social with the Michigan Wireless Association and simply ran short of time to get this out before the end of the night, so here goes.

Its getting warmer and nicer outside. That means more families outside and children playing. Remember to pay special attention to your surroundings when driving in the neighborhood streets. Also, start thinking about Jaycee Park and what we would like to see there. We are working close with Jessica Mistak this year to help create a sustainable solution for park maintenance and improvements. We are very excited to be able to work with the Parks and Recreation department on this initiative to better our already wonderful park. Keep your ears open for a day to walk the park and start jotting down your ideas for what we would like to see this year and in the future.

ITS FRIDAY!!! Some weeks are just a bear and having that Friday means so much. This weekend will be PACKED with activities for all. Here’s a list.;

Tonight, we will be stuffing bags for the Easter Eggstravaganza tomorrow. Candy stuffing will be at 7PM at Club Westy. No plans have been made for dinner, so either eat early, or bring a few dollars for a pizza order.
TONIGHT! , The Westland Wild Wings, led by it’s captain Mayor Wild are set to take the ice again in a much anticipated rematch against the Detroit Red Wing Alumni hockey team at the Westland Mike Modano Ice Arena on Friday, March 20th. The doors open at 5:30 with time to browse merchandise, buy raffle tickets, and have a snack or beer before the puck drops at 7 PM! Get your tickets at http://www.cityofwestland.com/Home/Components/News/News/1127/19?backlist=%2f

Easter Egg-Stravaganza is Tomorrow! If you haven’t gotten your tickets already, they will still be available at the door. The event runs from 10AM to 1PM and will be loads of fun. We will have Face Painting, Games, Activities, Egg Hunts, and even some breakfast food! Tickets are $2 for Children and $1 for adults. We will need all hands on deck to make this the best event yet! I encourage all who can assist, please call VP Markonni. I would like to thank all of our committee members for all of their hard work thus far and especially would like to thank our local business and individual sponsors who have pledged their time, resources, and funds to help make this a success. A few of them are;

Biggby Coffee – Westland
Entemans Thrift Shop
Awrey’s Bakery
RSM Technical Solutions
Face Flair
And a few more

Next week is National Conference in Nashville. April Hendryx and I have the honor to represent Westland and the State in the competitions segment of the week. Check out the article that was released yesterday about it. http://www.hometownlife.com/story/news/local/westland/2015/03/16/westland-jaycees-represent-michigan-national-competition/24862319/
In addition, I have also been asked to escort one of this year’s TOYA Award Winners – USAF Maj Tucker Hamilton and his family at Nationals. This is a great honor and I look forward to greeting him and getting a chance to learn a few things about his wonderful service to our country.
Please keep April, myself, and all of the Michigan Jaycees headed to Nashville in your thoughts and prayers as we travel to and from the conference.
