Westy Weekly May 13th, 2015

A Whole day EARLY!!!

Hey Westy!

How does it feel to know for sure that we are #1? I don’t know about you, but I’m still pinching myself. What an amazing weekend at conference. For those that may not know yet, the Westy walked all over that stage and took home the TOP AWARD from the conference in Traverse City. The Westland Area Jaycees are the Top Chapter of first trimester. Consider where we were and what we came from to where we are now. Yes, we are a big deal. Thank you DJ for always making sure we knew that. Its very clear how right you were. This could not have happened without all of you, working as hard as you do. This proves what we’ve been saying all year;

Strength Through Service

We also took home a few other honors;

#2 chapter in the Civic Leadership Certification (VERY CLOSE to #1)
Winner – Sustaining Project for the Easter Egg-Stravaganza
Callie Hubbard – Winner of the Film It competition
Degrees – a LOT!
Junior Jaycee / Jayteen degrees – A huge showing
I even earned a Presidential Medallion

While we are very excited to be on top, we must always remember that we must be gracious winners and continue to be humble around others. We still have a great deal of work to do in 2015 and the charge is still on as we dive into the busy time of year we have before us. Great job,.. lets go DO!

New Members – Please welcome Chris Crawford and Allison Bulson to the Westy! Chris is a dual member from Livonia who grew up and currently works and lives here in Westland. Allison is excited to join the team and experience everything the chapter has to offer! I hear she is also related to one of our Senators!

Coming Up!

The R4L Bowling fundraiser planning is underway. Amy Willingham and team have been ironing out all of the details and getting things lined up to make it a success. Right now, the tentative plan is to have fees at $20 in advance for bowling or $25 on site. Includes food, a couple games, and great times! Should you have any further questions, call your Director, Awesome Amy. Date is May 22 at Westland Bowl. For those that do not know, the gauntlet has been thrown. The Westy has opened up the challenge to the rest of the state for the honor of the Westy Bowling Trophy! The highest average score from any chapter will take home the award. Tickets can be purchased at www.westlandareajaycees.org
May 24th is the Memorial Day Parade. We need 15 people in total to help. Get with April Hendryx Right away to get your name on the list. They need our help and we have the right people to do it. This is our pleasure to serve, and you know the rest.

May 28th is the Braniac Challenge in Redford. This is a once a year fundraiser they put on to help fund their Relay for Life event. Traditionally, this was an ongoing war between Redford and Livonia, but looks like Redford wants some REAL competition this year. I think the Westy has the chops to do it. Cost is $20 per person and includes food and drink. It will be held at the Redford Jaycee Hall in Redford. Show up in Westy black and give them a run for their money!

The Car Show planning is still under way. This is happening on JUL 11th during the all American cruise. Brian Markonni is the project chair and we look forward to hearing from him soon as this plan unfolds. As it stands right now, we are holding this at Westland Bowl and we have sponsors lining up. Proceeds will be split between the good work we do in the community and Nothing But Nets!

The Relay for Life committee met this Monday and things are definitely coming together. Rebeka and team have been working hard on the program and it looks to be very exciting. This falls on Jun 6th this year, so be sure to come out, support, walk, and help us in the fight to beat cancer!

With that, I’ll close. We did good Westy. We did damned good. Im so very proud of you all. We are Westy.
