Good Afternoon Jaycees and Friends!
I hope you are enjoying your Thursday. It’s still cold outside, but we are one day closer to BBQ’s, sunshine, walks in the park, and our upcoming Saturday walks on Hines Dr. Me, I can’t wait to get the Cars out of their slumber and go for a cruise. Think warm, think happy! Til then, let the following good news warm your heart.
The Westland Area Jaycees are kind of a big deal, but you already knew that. This past weekend was the Year End Conference for the Michigan Junior Chamber and Westland was well represented! We had a number of awards and recognition handed out to our chapter. We even had TWO competitors not only win the third trimester awards, but took the top honors for the full year and as such, are heading to Nashville to represent not only Westland Area, but the whole State! Come to the GMM on March 3rd at 7pm to find out who they were when Wendy Z. presents them with their awards!
In addition to awards, Westland had a great time at conference. We met a lot of new people and a lot of people got to meet the Westland Area. A lot of people around the state also got a chance to meet “Awesome Amy” – our new Public Relations Executive :). A few chapters have since extended invites to us to come out to their meetings and projects because of the good things we are doing. We had some great training, good social interaction, and had the opportunity for a very cool photo op. I don’t expect that one to be the last. As the Westy travels, so will the banner! Lets see how many pictures we can get this year!
Yesterday, Rebecca Markonni and I met with Mayor Wild and Councilman Kehrer. We provided our state of the membership brief to the Mayor and he is excited about what we are doing. We will be working closely with the Mayor’s office over the course of the year to bring about positive Impact in our community. We are looking at Partnering up our Professional skills workshop along with the “Wild about Youth” program that the Economic Director and Youth Director are working on. This partnership will invigorate both programs and provide the absolute best opportunities for our area youth. Stay tuned!
Speaking of Mayor Wild, his is a pretty cool guy. When not leading our All American City to be one of the top 50 cities in the Nation to live, he puts on his skates and battles for glory against some of the Red Wings greats! The Westland Wild Wings, lead by it’s captain Mayor Wild are set to take the ice again in a much anticipated rematch against the Detroit Red Wing Alumni hockey team at the Westland Mike Modano Ice Arena on Friday, March 20th. The doors open at 5:30 with time to browse merchandise, buy raffle tickets, and have a snack or beer before the puck drops at 7 PM! Get your tickets at http://www.cityofwestland.com/

Be sure to give Gary Bulson a heartfelt thank you for his generosity while you are there!
