Westland Area Jaycees
The weather this week has been amazing. I sincerely hope you are all enjoying it and find time to be out in it as much as possible. Soon, the weather will eventually turn bitter cold, so soak it up now! I’m going to do my best to get the Hot Rods out and get some miles in before its time to put them up. The Hart trio will be out soon in the Capri’s, but there always extra room for ride alongs.
Did you know that we put the “Area” in Westland Area! On Tuesday, September 15th, a number of us attended the Wayne City Council meeting and made our introductions. We received a very warm welcome and I can already see the collaborative gears turning. We are all very excited on extending our service reach and working alongside the Wayne community in addition to Westland. Stay tuned for some upcoming Wayne projects that will no doubt benefit from some Jaycee assistance!
On Saturday, October 10th, we will be participating in the Rouge A Palooza event in Wayne. Lets get someone to take a lead on this and make a great showing. Details are here – https://rougeapalooza.wordpres
The Cleanup project for the Rouge in preparation for this event is THIS weekend. Again, lets see if we can make a great showing in our chapter shirts! Details are here – http://www.hometownlife.com/st
Last Tuesday was the State of the City address for Westland. A number of us were on hand for the event and it was a great program. We all got to really see how far Westland has come and how much further it is going. Hats off to the City of Westland Administration! Very exciting to be a part of it with all of you.
Are you going to October Conference? Did you register yet? Have questions? Ask the board or reach out on the members only page. We would love to see a big Westy presence at this conference like we have had the previous ones. The hotel block has ended and I am not sure about room availability. If you have not done so yet, call and make your reservations! If you ordered SWAG, the goal is that it will be waiting for you at Conference. (if you owe any $$, please bring it with you, or I’ll have to sick Sarah Austin on you 😉 j/k)
The Veterans Day 5K is gaining in support and registrations. I have also confirmed a number of military units that are going to be on hand for the event. This is no doubt, going to be a worthwhile project for all in attendance. Be sure to continue to put out the word and encourage your friends to come. We will be posting vendor space details soon, so if you have friends who would like to setup a space and support the cause, have them reach out to us!
Our Current Event Sponsors are;
Five Star General – Bill Johnson and UAW Local 900
General – Amanda Apfelblat – Michigan Chiropractic Specialists
Colonel – Gary Bulson and Men on the Move
Sergeant – Westland Mall
We still need more sponsors and participants to reach our goal! Contact me for more details! Soon, we will hit the streets of the local area to ask businesses to post our flyers in our effort to gain as much support as possible.
Speaking of support, our very own Shane Dials will be at Joe’y Comedy club and competing for $500 in an event hosted by Detroit Steam Vodka! Lets support him! Sep 29th at joey’s in Plymouth. See the Members only page for more details or go here https://www-joeyscomedyshop-co
