Good evening Westy!
I am thrilled to write this weeks weekly! I couldn’t be more proud to represent this chapter this weekend during Operation Fire Up. We worked on collaborating with other organizations for our first project in Garden City. A huge thank you to the GC Kiwanis, GCFD, Thrive, GC Community chat, all of the community members and Don Nicholson for taking some great pictures! Painting fire hydrants actually was a blast. The best part of the day was being stopped by residents who were so thrilled with the new red paint job. Even Mayor Randy Walker joined in and painted 18 hydrants! It was a great time for all those who attended and Garden City is excited to work with us again soon. April Hendryx and Eric Stoddard put a lot of work into this project and it showed! It was well organized and was executed without a flaw.
So it’s time to talk conference. Conference is a great opportunity to meet other Jaycees throughout Michigan and celebrate all of your hard work. This conference will be held in Shanty Creek on May 5-6. We will be orchestrating a car pool for those attending and would like a ride. Also, there is still room in the “Westy Suite” to make your stay more affordable. There are tickets still available to purchase. Your ticket covers a Friday night awards ceremony/party, training’s on Saturday morning, Saturday night sit down dinner/awards ceremony, after party and a hoodie. Its definitely worth it!!! I have met some of the most amazing and inspiring people while attending conference. If you are interested please let me know and I can show you how to sign up.
Look for committee meetings beginning this month. We are coming into the summer season of AWESOME projects and amazing opportunities to get involved. I would encourage each of you to sit on the committees for these projects. The opportunity to be part of these projects can teach you so much! Plus working on a project to completion is incredibly rewarding!
There are still spots available to participate in the Youth Mental Health First Aid training that we are sponsoring on April 30. There is a Facebook invite for this. However, if you cannot locate that and would still like to be involved let me know and I can add you to the invite. This is a really cool training where you can learn how to spot a mental health issue in youth and how to help. Bonus that it looks fantastic on a resume! Plus it is free to attend and we are serving lunch!
Welcome to our newest member Sarah Smiatacz!
With great pride,
