First a word from Eric Stoddard who was one of the chairperson’s for the BBQ this year…
Hey Westy! As you all know on August 4th and 5th we had our 3rd Annual All American BBQ Throwdown. When we started this project we had a goal of doubling the amount of teams we had last year. Through hard work and persistence we hit 29 KCBS professional teams! The event was a great success! The competitors had nothing but positive things to say about the hospitality and atmosphere of the event. We already have a date for next year and will be starting work on it very soon.
Also this year we were responsible for pouring all of the beer at the blues brews and BBQ’s. I would like to thank everyone who came out and volunteered their time to make it a success! The city was very happy with the way we handled the beer and the excellent customer service we provided.
Lastly I would like to give a special thank you to Sarah, Jim, Beka, D.J, Linda, Rebecca, and my Westy-Adjacent Andrea for all their hard work. Without you guys this event would not have been possible! You guys rocked it out! #Westy
Good Afternoon Westy!
I am so very proud of how hard each and everyone of you worked at the BBQ throwdown and at the beer tents for Blues, Brews and BBQ!! The chamber said that this year the beer tents ran smoother then they ever have and the BBQ throwdown was a hit for visitors to watch! It is moments such as this that truly make me proud to be a Westland Area Jaycee and to have the opportunity to represent the chapter as President. I would also like to thank Community Choice Credit Union for donating the swag baggies and some goodies for them! Another thank you to Biggby Coffee for providing early morning coffee to our participants and coupons as well. Thank you as well to Dairy Queen and Vizzys Pizza for donating coupons for the participants.
Another project that was a great success over the week was the Kids Day in the Park. This was our first combined project with the Garden City Kiwanis Club. Seriously, what a wonderful group of people the Kiwanis has!!!! They were a blast to work with and I am pleased to have had the chance to begin this wonderful relationship with their club. The kids day was truly a success! We had over 600 children attend, along with their parents there was well over 1,500 people in attendance!! The Kiwanis provided the children’s games, crafts, bouncers etc and we brought our touch a truck project and were able to give children the opportunity to see really big trucks up close and personal. Thank you to the Jaycees who came out and showed Garden City just how wonderful our chapter is!!!
This coming up weekend we have our Rally for Westland Area. Wendy Taylor has been working for months to organize this really fun and creative twist to a road rally. The point of this rally is to “collect” good deeds and create positive “vibes” within our three communities. There is still opportunity to sign up for this event. You can create a team or we can add you to a team, all are welcome. The cost is $15 per person and that covers the cost of the supplies needed for your team. You can still sign up at
Remember: “Working Together is Success”! I look forward to seeing all of you this weekend at the Rally!
